FISHING FOR SPRING (Cinquain)

Blue skies
Welcoming sun

A high of thirty six

Brave souls angling for the love of
Walleye

Rising into Earth’s night sky
Rare parigee moon

MAUMEE MASKED MARAUDER

Masked intruder,
Prowler, looter --
Cute as cute can be.
On a lark
At Sidecut Park
Along the great Maumee.

MAUMEE

Like “Mommy,” with the accent on “Me,” not “Mom,”
An historic city with great aplomb.
Her river feeds Erie,
She’s female (my theory),
See Maumee dot org (not dot com).

IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME

My dad is a drummer.
He plays with pizzazz
With a band by the name of
The Cakewalkin’ Jass.
“I’m going to work,”
To my mother, he’ll say.
My mother responds,
“No, you’re going to play.”

SUNSET ON THE MAUMEE

Meandering the ancient lake bed,
She makes her way to Erie’s Maumee Bay.
Earlier, she held throngs of fishermen,
Hip-deep, and shoulder-to-shoulder,
Angling for walleye.
As Keith and I take our evening walk,
She pauses to mirror azure, mingled with
Billows of auburn and butterscotch.
We smile.
It isn't often she stands still for a photo shoot.
