MAYBE I JUST LIKE IT THIS WAY

Coloring outside the lines
Clapping to the off-beat
Seldom dressing to-the-nines
Adding salt to balance sweet

Drinking hot tea every night
Watching college football
Rhyming everything I write
Softly silent snowfall

Crunching leaves beneath my feet
Cutting grass in summer
Seeing fields of corn and wheat
Beat of different drummer.

  1. Beat of a different drummer indeed! Raised on the Beatles, the backbeat is the thing. Being the offspring of drummers doesn't hurt either.

  2. I like it, Marie. I think many poets can identify with 'beat of a different drummer.' I enjoy your blog.
