MY RULES OF CONVERSATION

Don’t say “You Don’t Say,”
When you know I just said.
And how did such silliness
Get so widespread?

Don’t ask me “Ya know?”
When you know that I know.
Nonsensical filler
Has just got to go.

Don’t spill verbal sewage
To just get a rise.
Don’t babble so no one
Can slip in edgewise.

Don’t grumble or mumble
Or fumble your speech.
Don’t speak with your mouth full.
Don’t constantly preach.

These rules aren’t intended
To be a deathblow
To lively and spirited discourse.
Ya know?

  1. I like this alot! Being from New Jersey/New York area there are several expression that get my rise also! Ebonics for one, and to think that someone wants to make it a real language!
also wanted to let you know that your "nine eleven" poem on Poetic Aside was really great.
Living directly on the Palisades here in New Jersey gave me a birds eye view. I use to travel through the World Trade Center daily back in the 80's & 90's for work.

  2. Thanks for the kind comments, Ellenelizabeth. I've been very much enjoying your work out at P.A.

I have loads of cousins that live in Fairview, which I believe would be near you, wouldn't it? I believe they live near Palisades Park. (?)
